Beds
What you will
need:
Tape or rope, Large pads or
heavy blankets for headboards and footboards, Mattress covers
or old fitted sheets, Plastic bag.
How to pack:
Disassemble the
bed frames and mark the pieces so you know where they go later. Tie or
tape rails together. Place all
screws, bolts and nuts in a resealable plastic bag, label it and tape to
the rails. Tie large pads
or heavy blankets around headboard and footboards. Cover the box
spring and mattress individually with plastic mattress covers to keep
them clean and free of dust and dirt during the move. Old fitted
sheets can also be used to protect your box spring and mattress.
Place one on the top side of the box spring and two on the
mattress so the mattress is covered completely (front, back and all
sides).
Bicycles
What you will
need:
Bike box and
plastic fork protector (optional), Bubble wrap or
packing paper, Small wrench
and/or pliers, Cardboard, Small blade or
utility knife.
How to pack in
a bike box:
Ideally a
bicycle will take up the least amount of space and travel the safest if
you package it properly in a bike box.
A bike box and plastic fork protectors should not cost you any money as
most bike shop dealers throw these items
out once the new bicycle has been unpackaged. Remove pedals
and front wheel. Insert fork
protector onto fork. Wrap frame in
bubble wrap or packing paper. Place bike into
the box turning handlebars to allow them to fit. Place front
wheel into the box in front of and just above the cranks. Seal the box
well with tape and label it “Bike”.
How to pack
without a bike box:
Loosen, lower
and turn handlebars at right angles to save space. Clean and cover
chains and pedals to protect other items from being snagged or soiled.
Books
What you will
need:
Tape, Small moving
boxes.
How to pack:
Never pack more
than 30 pounds of books in a box. Alternate
bindings every few books to keep stacks level in each box. Fill in small
spaces in each box with smaller paperbacks. Tape the box
shut and label it “Books”.
Bureaus
What you will
need:
Resealable
plastic bag, Tape or stretch
wrap, Rope, Large furniture
pads.
How to pack:
If you leave
bureau drawers completely full they may be too heavy to move. Use suitcases to pack some clothing and other non-fragile items
from your bureau drawers. Partially empty
out drawers and fill spaces with small, fragile items like clocks or
picture frames wrapped in loose clothing. Remove legs if possible. Place wing nuts or screws in a resealable
plastic bag, label it and tape it to the underside of the furniture
piece. Ensure drawers and doors are secured shut. Do not apply tape directly to
polished or painted wood finishes. Removing the tape could ruin the surface. We recommend you use stretch
wrap to secure bureau drawers or cabinet doors shut so
they do not fly open when they are moved. Tie a large pad
securely around the outside of the bureau.
